Private message

Sent as a DMHey alex! 👋 Welcome. Start with my most popular video, and tell me what you want to see next.

How it works

One keyword, three steps

A viewer comments

You choose the keyword, for example “guide”. Anyone who comments it on a Reel starts the flow.

It replies in public

A friendly reply goes under the comment, picked from several variants so it never looks copy and pasted.

It follows up in private

The viewer gets a DM with the link or message you set, such as your best Reel, a guide or an offer.

Under the hood

Built to run on its own

Reel Replies is a real service, not a script. It has been answering comments on a live account.

Rules engine

Keywords, whole word matching and rotating reply and DM variants, all edited in a simple rules file without touching code.

Safe sending

A rate limited, persistent queue keeps messages going out at a steady pace and retries them instead of dropping them.

Delivery tracking

Every comment is logged with whether the reply and the DM were delivered, and why if they were not.

Admin dashboard

A password protected page to see events, test a rule before it goes live and run health checks.

Verified webhooks

Incoming Instagram events are checked against their signature before anything is sent.

Stays connected

The access token refreshes automatically, so the service keeps working week after week.

Before you buy

Who it is for

This is a technical product. The guide is written for developers, technical creators and freelancers who are comfortable with a terminal, GitHub, JSON and environment variables. Plan for about an afternoon of setup and testing.

What you need

  • A Meta developer account
  • An Instagram Creator or Business account with a public profile
  • A GitHub account and a Render account
  • Python 3.11 or newer
  • A free Supabase or Neon Postgres project
  • A second Instagram account for a real end to end test

Good to know

  • Instagram allows one private reply per comment, within seven days of it.
  • The default cap is 30 public replies per hour, and you can change it.
  • Meta's API and free hosting tiers can change, so the guide covers troubleshooting and token refresh.
  • You own the hosting, the database and the data. By default the service only talks to Instagram.

Questions

Frequently asked

Do I need to be a developer?

You do not write code, but the guide assumes you are comfortable with a terminal, GitHub, JSON and environment variables. If those words are new to you, this product will be a struggle.

Does it cost anything to run?

The Meta API has no usage fee for this flow, and the default setup runs on free tiers of Render and a Postgres database, so there is no planned monthly hosting bill within the providers' free limits. Free tier terms can change.

Does it work with a personal Instagram account?

It needs an Instagram Creator or Business account with a public profile. One install serves one Instagram account.

Can I use it for a client?

The licence covers your own Instagram accounts. You may hire a contractor to set it up, but you may not resell it or share the code.
